Northern Technologies SA provides state of the art power protection solutions. Founded in 1998 the company focuses on designing innovative products and providing quality customer service and unequaled technical support. Northern Technologies SA utilizes non-degrading, bipolar silicon avalanche diode (SAD) technology for primary protection and metal oxide varistors (mov) as a back-up to protect sensitive digital equipment during a lightning strike or power transient.
AC power protection equipment produced by Northern Technologies SA is modular, field repairable and includes an unconditional warranty which covers acts of nature. The result is that downtime is significantly decreased and equipment life is extended.
There are two types of surge arresters on low voltage AC systems - namely Class 1 and Class 2.
The difference between them is their ability to divert energy in the form of a current.
Class 1 (Lightning Protection)
Can divert energy with a current wave form of 10/350µs - the rise time is 10µs and the tail of wave is 350µs to 50%
Typical current ratings 10kA to 35kA - 10/350µs wave form.
Class 2 (Surge Suppression)
Diverts energy with a wave form of 8/20µs - the rise time is 8µs and the tail of wave is 20µs to 50%
Typical current ratings 5kA to 200 kA - 8/20µs wave form
